Welcome

to the Western Australian Division of the Planning Institute of Australia.

The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) was founded in 1951 and is today the only national peak body and member-based, professional association representing individuals and organisations involved in spatial planning. PIA has approximately 5,000 members Australia-wide and overseas, involved in urban and regional planning, social planning, urban design, transport planning, economic development, environmental planning and planning law.

PIA aims to support planning professionals, to promote planning as a process and a discipline; to support and elevate the status and influence of the profession; and inform and influence discussion on planning and public policy issues.

PIA is a nationally-incorporated association, governed by an elected representative National Council and supported by a Chief Executive Officer, with staff in a National Office (in Canberra) and other staff across Australia. Each State or Territory is governed by a Division Committee, which comprises elected members of the Institute from that State or Territory who act in an honorary capacity. Each Division is represented on National Council and close working relationships are maintained between Divisional and National Committees and offices.
